Wave goodbye to flabby upper arms

Almost every woman I know who is older than 40 complains about the condition of the back of her arms. Some call it the "eternal wave," because when you stop waving goodbye, your arm fat continues the salutation.

Females do not naturally have upper-body strength as males do (we are born with kickboxing legs and glute power), and the muscles located in the back of the upper arm are not used much in everyday life. The triceps get weak and flabby. It prevents a lot of ladies from wearing tank tops in the summer.

Bummer - when properly toned, a woman's arms can be the most attractive and functional part of the body.

Amy Winehouse pwns the Grammys

Amy Winehouse scored five Grammys last night: Record of the Year, Best New Artist, Song of the Year for "Rehab," Best Vocal Album and Best Pop Vocal Performance. She accepted the award live via satellite from London. Her visa request was denied but then accepted at the last minute. Amy chose to perform closer to home. Us Magazine reports:

After accepting her award, an emotional Winehouse, who was joined on stage by her dad and mom, thanked her parents, record label and "incarcerated Blake" — her husband, who has been behind bars since last last year.
"I can't believe I've won 5 awards. It's a shame I couldn't be there to accept the awards but I'm so proud and happy that I had the opportunity to perform for the Grammys in my hometown of London with my family and friends around me," she said.

End of recruiting process lifted weight from Corral

While there was much joy in L.A., there was disappointment in Berkeley, Calif., and in South Bend, Ind. Cal and Notre Dame were Corral’s other finalists. Corral said she got choked up when she called those coaches. Both were gracious and wished Corral the best of luck.

Just like that, no more recruiting. After years of receiving letters from various colleges, sometimes as many as 15 to 20 a day, it was over. Corral said she preferred the hand-written notes from coaches, and she acknowledged she did not read every typed letter.

She certainly will not miss the process. Pressing the send button with that photo of Allison lifted quite a weight.

"I said, ‘I’m done. I don’t have to do this anymore.’ I was so happy."

But the Trojans were not done with the communication.

No Longer Free to Choose

To begin with, if every student were to buy only used textbooks then no new textbooks would be sold. Thus, no new textbooks would be produced, rapidly diminishing the quality of education.

Second, one must consider why the market prices for new textbooks are increasing. Surprisingly, one of the major causes of higher priced new textbooks is the used textbook market. For example, if the fixed cost of producing a textbook is $500,000 and 5,000 units of the book are sold each year for 4 years then each textbook would bear $25 of the fixed cost.

However, if, due to the used textbook market, only the first 5,000 units are sold and, in each of the remaining three years these same 5,000 units are sold as used textbooks, then the publisher still has the $500,000 in fixed costs spread out over only 5,000 books.

Dr. Mirta Roses Sworn In For 2nd Term At PAHO, USA

Dr. Mirta Roses, the first woman in charge of the oldest health institution in the world, begins her second term as Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), saying "As we envision the future, we can dare to dream about events that will become a part of the long history of successes achieved by those who came before us."

In a ceremony with authorities from several countries and regional organizations, Dr. Roses took the oath of office from the Minister of Health of Chile, Dr. María Soledad Barría, who was President of the 27th Pan American Sanitary Conference.

"This is above all a day of commitment. Today I renew my oath to devote myself tirelessly, day by day, hour by hour, to keeping PAHO at the forefront of the response to the regional and global challenges in public health and, particularly, to serve as an instrument for bringing good health to the most neglected, vulnerable, marginalized, and excluded populations," she said.

Britney and Adnan Shop, Wander, Hopefully Don't Have a Baby

At least she's like of those breeders, she breeds kids (keeps popping out kids) and would have to pay for them $15,000 per piece per month until they're 18 or 21. Those kids at least have enough, although they'll have to rely on step mommies for any source of motherhood relationship.

Britney is the prime celebrity(?) example why we need to screen people before they can become parents. Or why we need license to have kids.

Home Diagnostics up for incentives

The city of Fort Lauderdale has already approved a deal that would give the diabetic testing supply manufacturer the same amount of incentives. The balance of the funds would come from the state's Qualified Target Industries program.

Home Diagnostics (NASDAQ: HDIX) would create the 135 jobs over four years and must maintain each new employee for at least one year. The average salary must be at least $42,629.

"They are adding the types of jobs that we want to have in the community," said James Tarlton, president of the Broward Alliance, which worked with the company on the deal. "They are creating the knowledge base of workers that are important to building a high-tech environment here."

The county estimates the expansion would generate $837,671 in tax revenue, which would be tapped to give the company incentives.

A Special Court here today deferred to February 5 its judgement against three persons arrested on conspiracy and other related charges in connection with the hijacking of an Indian Airlines plane IC-814 during its flight from Kathmandu to New Delhi nearly eight years ago.
